Chaspinhac

Chaspinhac Chaspinhac Chaspinhac

Chaspinhac is the heiress of Caspiniacum or villa Caspinii. Some decades ago it was called Saint Quintin Chaspinhac.

To reach Chaspinhac, you pass through a pine forest wich makes stronger the meaning of the usual name of area : the south of Auvergne. Arriving up to an altitude of 875 m, you'll discover a village of about 710 inhabitants, strtched away on a large granite plateau. During the old regim, this plateau was divided in two parisches, Chaspinhac and Saint Quentin. It was the centre of many feats of arms. The squires of Saint Quentin, during the Midle Age profited by a real leadership which will be declining with the passing centuries. From this wonderful past only subsist the remnants of a tumbeldown village where you can have a pleasant walk and enjoy a superb panorama on the gorges of the Loire.
Entering the village, admire The Paravent Cross (16 th century). Some steps further in the center, a small church erected on a headland with dazzling stained-glass windows. Dominated by the church, a surprising-sized city hall (the smallest in france ?) is on duty.

Further, the village opens with a large place, the « barns place » with the communal bakehaouse and fountain. If you climb up the mount Serre, ancient strombolian volcano, you'll find a panoramic table of the whole landscape and thus, at the outset you'll cover the Basin of Le Puy, and in the distance mounts Meygal, Mezenc, and gerbier des Joncs, and the other places stamped by a volcanic past.
